IT Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday launched the Nokia 114 phone, featuring support for Urdu language. The Nokia 114 also features dual-SIM support, 32 GB expndable memory and VGA rear camera.
Nokia India has launched its Nokia 114 phone with Urdu language support. The handset offers dual-SIM support and is priced at Rs. 2,579.
The Nokia 114 comes with Easy swap technology that allows you to change SIM’s without switching off your mobile phone. It features a 1.8-inch QVGA colour LCD display, a 0.3MP rear camera and 32GB expandable storage via microSD card slot.
Nokia has preloaded the handset with popular apps like Facebook and Twitter. The phone supports Bluetooth for connectivity. Users can also download games and utility applications on this handset through the Nokia Store.
The Nokia 114 comes with a 1020mAh battery that is rated to deliver over 10 hours talk time and nearly a month’s standby. It also features cloud-accelerated Nokia Xpress browser that allows users to consumer up to 85 percent less data by compressing websites in cloud.
The handset was presented by film-maker Muzaffar Ali by Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal in the present of Nokia India managing director P. Balaji at an event in New Delhi.
IT Minister Kapil Sibal stated at the launch, “India today has one of the largest Urdu speaking populations in the world – over 15 crore. The proliferation of the language is deep-rooted in our culture. We would like to connect this language to Internet and mobile telephony like English.”
Commenting on the launch, P.Balaji, Managing Director, Nokia India, said, “Given the regional diversity of our country, ability to communicate in the regional language has come across as a key expectation amongst our consumers. We were the first mobile company to support content and user interface in 11 Indian languages in India. Introducing Urdu keymat in Nokia 114 is another such initiative to reach out to our consumer across the country.”
Nokia is the first company to offer regional content in 11 Indian languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Kannada and now Urdu via its in-house application Akshar in the Asha touch range of affordable smartphones.
