#Stress can turn even your #dog’s #hair #grey

screen-shot-2017-01-17-at-6-52-00-pmStress may give your pooch a `salt-and-pepper’ look, say scientists who found that just like us, our canine friends too are susceptible to hair greying due to anxiety .

Researchers from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in the US examined 400 dogs. Results showed that dogs between 1-4 years of age exhibiting higher owner-reported signs of anxiety showed a greater extent of premature muzzle greying than their less anxious peers.

Increased muzzle greyness also was related to owner-reported symptoms of impulsivity in the dogs.

Female dogs showed higher levels of greyness than male dogs but dog size, spay neuter status and the presence of medical problems did not significantly predict the extent of muzzle greyness.

Working from #home? Six rules to stay clear from messing up

screen-shot-2017-01-17-at-6-46-16-pmWork from home is a dream situation especially if you have to be with your kid or because you want to avoid traffic mayhem. But those who have experienced this, believe that it is not such a win-win situation afterall. Many complain that it becomes difficult to stay focused and few others feel that it eventually ends up becoming ‘working FOR home and office both’ rather ‘working FROM’ home. Even though working in your pyjamas sounds lucrative, there are few rules, you must follow to derive maximum out of your comfy, work from home job.

Find a perfect nook

When you are home, you are bound to be tempted to laziness and might keep changing your work station. But this will not just waste your time, but will also not be great for your posture. Working for hours lying on the bed or sitting on a couch many not be a healthy proposition. Decide on a proper chair and table and stick to that place.

Get dressed

How many times have you started working from home without even brushing your teeth? Snuggling in your blanket and working will not only affect your physical health but will also have an impact on your mental well-being. You tend to become sluggish and lose your concentration. The reason behind a certain dress code for office is that what you wear has an impact on how you feel. And thus one should dress up to feel charged up and stay focused.

If you work with headphones on

Pick that perfect playlist to pep up your mood. Choose a list of songs that increase your concentration levels. Or the best idea is to avoid them as for some they might interfere with the concentration.

Step away from washing and cleaning

If you are working from home, chances are that you will be tempted to work on few quick jobs. DON’T do that! Remember, you are ‘working FROM home’ and not ‘FOR home’.

Take a proper lunch break

Most of us get casual when we are working from home and tend to grab quick or easy bites than a proper lunch. Many of us also keep working while having lunch. Avoid this! Take a proper lunch break just like you would have while in office. Also, try to take a walk and bring some life back in your limbs.

Stay away from munching

Nibbling on quick snacks is the most unhealthy thing we do while working from home. Hide all those tempting biscuits and munchies. Instead take coffee or tea breaks – take a stroll in your balcony or prepare yourself a healthy fruit salad.

How to choose a #sunscreen

screen-shot-2017-01-16-at-7-45-43-pmGuidelines to choose right sunscreen:

– Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 15. If you’re going to be in the sun longer than two hours, choose one with SPF 30.

– Pick a broad-spectrum sunscreen, i.e., one that protects against UVA (skin-aging) and UVB (skin-burning) rays.

– Use a water-based sunscreen if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

– Use waterproof sunscreen if you’re going swimming. Remember, the term ‘waterproof sunscreen’ actually means that it is effective for 40-80 minutes of swimming, so you will have to reapply it if you’re in the water for a long time.

– Not all sunscreens have the same ingredients, so if you have an allergic reaction to the one you are using, choose another with different ingredients.

– Sunscreens with certain ingredients — such as oxybenzone, retinyl palmitate and parabens — should be avoided as they are potentially carcinogenic.

4 Essential ways to #glowing #skin

screen-shot-2017-01-16-at-7-40-40-pmGlowing and flawless skin may seem impossible to attain, but that’s where we come in. We get to the root of the problem to find the solution to baby soft and glamorous skin.

To help us make sense of the cosmetic world Dr. Udhay Sidhu, Dermatologist and Cosmetologist from the Harvard Medical School, unravels four ways that guarantee a transformation from dull blemished skin to sexy glowing skin.

First and foremost the mantra is to keep the skin care routine simple!

Buy products which are a must for your skin and make sure you use them. Hydrating face wash, sunscreen moisturizer and a replenishing night cream are all musts. Use skin-type specific products and remember always be gentle to your skin.

Eat right. Say a BIG NO to that pack of chips; instead go in for foods which are rich in antioxidants, omega3 fatty acids and vitamins. Some of the best foods for a glowing skin are – berries, avocados, almonds and salmon.

Exfoliate your skin. Once a week is ideal to keep the dead cells away and give your skin a smooth and supple feel.

Don’t ignore your skin problems. If you have blemishes or acne meet your dermatologist and seek treatment and guidance about your skin care regimen. It is better to start the treatment early rather than to wait.
