Although the main cause for diaper rash is excessive wetness, other causes include tight diapers, humid climate, and not washing cloth nappies properly, which leaves residues of detergent in the nappy.

– Change your baby’s nappy as often as you can so as to keep their bottoms clean and dry.

– Letting your baby stay without a diaper for a few minutes helps the rash heal faster.

– Applying aloe vera gel on the rash keeps the skin free of moisture.

– When you keep dirty nappies for a wash, add half a cup of vinegar to the waterand rinse the diapers without using any detergents, which might be causing the rash in the first place.

– Petroleum jelly goes a long way in curing diaper rash effectively.

– Avoid using perfumed soaps or detergents to wash nappies — it might be the cause for the rash.

– Use a mild soap and lukewarm water instead of wipes to clean your baby.

– Always let the diaper area dry completely before making your baby wear another nappy.

– Add a little oatmeal to warm water when you’re giving your baby a bath.

– Avoid using diapers that have plastic edges.

– Dry your babies bottom gently with a soft towel or cotton — don’t scrub it.

– As much as you can, try and avoid using talcum powder on your baby , it can get into the little one’s lungs.

Unlike most of the animated movies we know, Moana doesn’t have a love angle, which is a breath of fresh air. And that’s just a small part of why the movie is fabulous. The girl Moana is never treated differently for being a girl. She is her father’s only daughter and is the one to be the chief after him. There is no gender bias at all. The demigod in the movie, Maui, also mentions in one of the scenes that he is not just the hero of men, but hero to all. What makes Moana weaker to Maui is not her gender but the fact that he is a demigod and she is a mortal. Your girl must watch this brilliant example of girl power.

BRAVE

Disney princesses have always had evil moms giving them a tough time but Brave changes that. The woman who makes the life of the protagonist tough is not her stepmother but her mom. The protagonist of the movie Brave is warrior princess, Merida. Her mother wants to find a suitable mate for Merida, while she wants to be free and independent. The film is designed around strong female characters, with women in charge of their fate. Gender equality is the biggest message here.

FROZEN

‘He woke her up with the kiss of love…’ is a story that reminds us of a typical fairytale but that’s where Frozen ceases to be similar to other animation movies. The movie has a love story but it is not a man’s kiss of love that saves the woman but her sister Elsa’s. The movie is a portrayal of strong sisterly love. There is no beast or evil step mom that has to be fought but a girl’s own fears. This is a must watch film!

#Facts about #fibroids

Fibroids are uterine overgrowths that develop in and around the uterus in a female. They are nothing but the normal tissue that starts growing abnormally to form a benign or a non-cancerous tumor. Fibroids have become an extremely common condition that can be experienced by females after puberty and the peak incidence of occurrence is around 30 years of age.

More often than not, fibroids are asymptomatic and can go unnoticed for a long time before they get diagnosed. However, sometimes they cause numerous symptoms. The commonly seen symptoms of fibroids are – heavy menstrual bleeding, painful periods (the pain begins few days prior to the periods and becomes worse during periods), a heavy dragging sensation in the lower abdomen or pelvis, pain during sexual intercourse and some complain of excessive weakness due to heavy bleeding.

Listed below are some basic facts about uterine fibroids.

* Fibroids are non cancerous

The term benign tumor often confuses people and they end up thinking that anything having the word ‘tumor’ as a suffix is cancerous. A tumor is nothing but an overgrowth and fibroids belong to the Non-Cancerous category and can be managed easily.

* Fibroids are usually asymptomatic

A lot of women who have fibroids are symptom-free. And such cases where the fibroids cause no symptoms don’t require any kind of treatment. Clinical observation and periodical investigations and check ups are advised for such cases.

* Heavy menstrual flow is almost always the first symptom of Fibroids

More often than not, excessive bleeding during periods is the first symptom of underlying uterine fibroids. Some women develop anemia and weakness because of this and seek a doctor’s opinion for it. Many women pass a lot of clots during their periods. Occasionally, females also complain of bleeding in between their periods too.

* Hysterectomy is not the only treatment option

A number of medical therapies can successfully shrink and/or slow the growth of fibroids, such as Homeopathy, Ayurveda, hormone treatments and ultrasound therapy.

A conservatory surgical procedure known as ‘Myomectomy’ – which removes the fibroid while leaving the uterus intact is the most popular treatment option.

* Hysterectomy is required only in a few cases

Women with fibroids can definitely conceive. In fact, some research suggests that certain types of uterine fibroids can change the size and shape of the uterus.

Some women with fibroids only need some amount of medical supervision throughout their pregnancy and can deliver healthy babies without any treatment. However, your gynecologist is the best person to judge whether your fibroids need to be excised or not. Size and position of the fibroids is the main deciding factor. 1-2% of the infertility cases have fibroids as the underlying cause. Before you start planning a baby you must consult an obstetrician. In some cases a myomectomy is an absolute must for pregnancy.

* Their cause still remains unknown

Fibroids were first believed to occur due to hormones as they appear generally around the time of puberty and decrease by the time of menopause. However, there is no clear-cut indication to support this theory. Certain cases have shown a genetic predisposition while some cases have shown association with stress, diet and environmental factors. The exact cause still remains uncovered.

While many women would never know what fibroids are, more than half of the women will develop fibroids before they are 50. The incidence of fibroids is extremely high. Research suggests that up to 70% of all women are likely to get them at some point in their lifetime. However, like mentioned above, they can be managed effectively with several treatment options.

If Rapunzel was a real-life character, I am sure she would be the richest woman in the world because of a whole battery of hair product endorsements that she would be flooded with – shampoos, hair oils, hair-colour – the works. After all, nothing sells like hair and beauty products. And the reason for it is obvious:

Old fashioned Hot Oil treatment works best!

Warm a little oil – any natural oil (olive, canola, coconut or castor) in a small bowl and gently massage it in to your scalp. Leave it on for a few hours and then shampoo it off. Nothing works better than massaging some oil in to your scalp. This circulatory motion helps increase the oxygen and nutrient supply to your scalp and arrests hair fall.

S for Shine, Salmon and Sweet Potatoes!

Fish like salmons, sardines and mackerels are packed with omega-3 fatty acids which help your hair to be shiny and thick. Omega-3 fatty acids are not naturally produced in our body so we have to rely on dietary sources.

Sweet potatoes are rich in an antioxidant called beta carotene which helps protect against dry, dull hair. It also encourages the glands in your scalp to produce an oily fluid called sebum that prevents hair from drying out. Other orange coloured vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupes and mangoes are also rich in beta carotene.
